How To Empty Your Diaper Genie (*Step-By-Step*)

Follow these steps to empty your Diaper Genie properly.

1. On models that have a release button on the front, the first thing you need to do is press that release button. This will allow the top to unlatch from the bottom of the diaper pail, making it easier to take it apart.
2. Remove the top from the bottom of the diaper pail, taking care not to let any of the dirty diapers inside spill out.
3. Just above the top diaper in the bag, pinch the trash bag and twist it to seal off the diapers inside. You may also want to go ahead and tie a knot in it now before you remove the bag from the rest of the diaper pail.
4. ​Inside most modern Diaper Genie models, there is a small cutting blade beneath a plastic box. You can slide the trash bag into this blade and use it to cut the bag from the remaining bags without the need for scissors.

****If you have one of the newer models of Diaper Genie, you can simply flip open the front latching door and reach inside to pinch the top of the bag and twist it shut. The cutter is on the front of the Diaper Genie and can be easily accessed without needing to take the whole thing apart or even turn it over.

5. Dispose of the full bag of diapers.
6. If you need to replace the bag cartridge as well, close the Diaper Genie and turn it on its side so that you can open the lid to the top.
7. Pull the tab closure off of your bag refill and discard it. Pull up the first bag so that it is slightly sticking out of the refill container.
8. To remove the old bag container, simply take it out of the pail. Replace it by just popping the new one into place and pushing the bag down through the center of the pail.
9. Close the Diaper Genie and reopen the middle of this option again. Pull the clean bag through and knot it tightly shut at the bottom.

****If you have one of the newer models of Diaper Genie, you will only need to pull open the front latching door to this offer and reach inside to pull the bag through. You do not have to worry about taking the whole thing apart.

10. Close the Diaper Genie once again and lock it shut. Congratulations! You have just emptied your Diaper Genie and replaced the refill bags, if needed, as well.
11. If you are planning to use a regular trash bag instead of a refill bag, you will need to follow more or less the same instructions. However, when putting the bag in, you’ll need to position it so that it hangs over the side and the lid of the Diaper Genie helps to hold it in place. These diaper pails are not designed to work with regular trash bags, but they can be used with kitchen bags if you’re willing to put forth a little more effort to make them fit.
